What are the laws in the UK regarding 17 year olds serving alcohol?
If you are in England, Wales or Scilly Isles The Licensing Act 2003 sets out various rules. Yes you can if your employer wants to give you a job. The ruling applies to pubs, clubs, and supermarkets. There is NO set age to serve alcohol. Some where in the chain of supervision there will be a ‘personal licence’ holder, for which you have to be 18 & pass an examination. A ‘personal licence’ holder can in turn authorise someone over 18yrs and in turn over 18yrs and personal licence holders can supervise ANY age of person. The authority for my answer is set out at Section 153 (1) (2) & (4) LA2003. So you could end up with the rather ironical situation of a person as young as even 12 yrs of age serving alcohol, under supervision even though such a person would not be allowed unaccompanied into the licensed premises as a customer.
