What are the key requirements for intransit fumigation of containers?

0

The container must be designated as Class 9 Hazardous Goods on all documentation as set out in the IMDG Code (Volume 1, page 35 and specifically Section 9.9). The forwarding agent should be instructed to organise this. The shipping line, vessel and master must be informed prior to the container being loaded and must agree to accept the container. The fumigator is required to check and seal the container to ensure that it is gas tight before applying the fumigant. The fumigant must be applied and the container clearly marked with warning signs, as required by IMO, before it is loaded on the vessel.
