What are the key features of the FPL Glades Power Park project?
FPL is proposing to build an advanced technology coal power plant that would be situated on an approximately 5,000 acre site about five miles northwest of Moore Haven, a city that has expressed its support for both the modern, sophisticated power plant technology and the economic benefit that new industry, income and jobs would bring to the community. Specifically, the plant proposal calls for the construction of two 980 megawatt generating units capable of serving the equivalent of about 650,000 homes. Each of the generating units would be highly efficient and reliable. And,, each unit would be equipped with the most advanced, proven pollution control equipment to protect our environment. It is estimated that the plant would contribute an average of more than $21 million in property taxes each year in Glades County and several million annually in nearby Hendry County where a new substation and transmission power lines would be needed to connect the project to the FPL electric grid and
