The QA&CPD Program has been continually evaluated and updated since being established in 1987. The new triennium aims to ensure all GPs are provided with opportunities to participate in high quality educational activities that emphasise patient safety. The following points are the key changes that have been made to the program for 2008–2010 to increase the educational benefits GPs receive for the valuable time they invest: • Completion of Category 1 activities credits GPs with 40 QA&CPD points. • New types of Category 1 modules are available. • Evidence based medicine (EBM) journal club • Rapid ‘Plan, Do, Study, Act’ (PDSA) cycle • Unaccredited activities completed by GPs can be self-recorded and used toward their total point allocation for the triennium. • General practitioners are required to complete a basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course. • All approved activities need to take a systems approach to patient safety by considering the environment in which a GP works.
