Science Fiction (SF) is a type of media whereby the premise is that the events being described are taking place in a reality other than the one you are currently experiencing. This is either Long Time ago (Star Wars), Alternate Present (The Terminator, Twilight Zone, Independence Day) or Future (Dark Star, Silent Running). Science Fiction usually deals with hardware and technology, compared to Science Fantasy (also SF) whereby there is more concentration on non-technological aspects of the events being described, for example – The Lord of the Rings. Science Fiction can (sometimes) predict the future, for example our mobile phones today were predicted in STAR TREK some 40 years ago. Arthur C Clarke (a great Science Fiction writer) invented the communications satellite. and of course our military is already deploying battlefield robots…. And of course, many scientists are searching for the “Warp Drive” as seen in Star Trek…..
