What are the key challenges in designing cars for India and the global market?
There are cost challenges and safety regulations that need to be kept in mind when designing. There are laws of physics and materials that need to be considered. One thing you need to keep in mind as a designer is that what you are designing today will come into the markets only by 2011. So, we have to be able to anticipate the market. That is more difficult than the fashion industry. Q: How strong is the team at the design centre here in India? How big is the Indian design centre in comparison to other global design centres? A: The Indian design centre is the ninth largest in the world, among the 11 design centres we have. The biggest is the US design centre. We currently have around 50 people working at the design centre and by year end should have around 70 people. The design schools here in India are very good and we plan to recruit from here.
