What are the key challenges in delivering food to WFP beneficiaries in DPRK?
How is WFP overcoming them? Very few international organizations have had access to work in DPRK, and those that have are consistently subjected to quite strict restrictions on movement, number of international staff and ability to undertake field monitoring and assessments. This makes it especially difficult to identify who the hungry are, ensure that food distributions reach them and evaluate the impact the assistance is having. WFP has been working in the country for close to 14 years. During this time, we have progressively built up trust and a good relationship with the government, which has allowed us to get the best operating conditions ever extended to an international agency. WFP now enjoys wide geographical access, more flexibility and randomness in monitoring and the highest international staffing numbers ever permitted.
