What are the key advantages and disadvantages of the LibraryMate style?
Libraries that want to provide patrons the ability to see that their materials have been checked in and to receive a receipt should opt for the LibraryMate. LibraryMate can be configured to read bar codes in addition to RFID tags. Instead of dropping items into a book return chute, patrons are instructed to place items one at a time on a flat conveyor belt. Should the system fail to detect a tag, the belts direction is reversed and the item is returned to the patron. The LibraryMate may be configured so that only authorized users are allowed to access the system. LibraryMate offers different configuration options for external and internal installations. It costs significantly more than the Book Drop model and installation requirements are also greater.
