The laws depend on what state you live in. If this is your son’s second actual charge, at 17 1/2 the state might decide to try him as an adult to make an impression on him. But that’s not likely. For a second charge, they will probably revoke his probation on the first one. If he had a suspended sentence on the first one, he may have to spend some time in lockup. Plus whatever sentence he receives this time around. When you say “luckily they didn’t look at his record”, you are counting your chickens much too soon. He has court in a month. They will know all about him then.
