What are the job prospects in the field of visual impairment?
The prospects for now and the foreseeable future are excellent, particularly if certified personnel are willing to relocate. Research has shown that at the current rate of graduation of specialists in the field, we will not be able to keep up with the needs of visually impaired students. In fact, the personnel at the sites where students do their student teaching or complete their internship recruit many of the graduates. There are three certification programs in Pennsylvania. They are Kutztown University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and the University of Pittsburgh. Contact the educational consultants in the regional PaTTAN offices for more information.
