What are the job prospects for Pharmacists?
A. Both the nation and Connecticut are in need of pharmacists due to an increased use of prescription medications and an aging population. In fact, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy recently stated, “The (pharmacy) manpower shortage is a long-term problem for which there is no single solution.” The Connecticut Department of Labor projects a pharmacy growth rate of 19.9% until at least 2016. A recent Hartford Courant article (1/5/09) reported that “Pharmacists remain in short supply across the country … Competition among retail outlets and health care facilities is fierce, and the pay — salaries typically start around $120,000 — is high.
