What are the Job Duties of a Paramedic?
The job duties of a paramedic involve first responder responsibilities. Paramedics are usually first on the scene of an accident or medical emergency, and must assess the situation, determining which course of action needs to be taken in order to best stabilize the patient. If the patient’s condition is life threatening, the paramedic may need to perform CPR or other life-saving procedures. Otherwise, the paramedic’s responsibility is to make the patients as stable and comfortable as possible for transportation to the hospital. During the ambulance ride, the paramedic’s job duties include making sure that the patient maintains his or her stability. Paramedics closely monitor the situation to ensure that the patient’s condition does not deteriorate during transportation. A paramedic may also start certain medical procedures during transportation if it will benefit the patient.
