What are the issues plaguing the Nigerian music scene?
We don’t have a music industry, all we have are people swimming against the tide and trying to make things happen for themselves. We keep deceiving ourselves, when you listen through all the radio stations in Lagos for example, each sound is clustered with Vocorder, you almost want to think that it is aliens from mars who are singing. The same way we are (celebrating) the growth of the so called industry, is the same way we would jubilate its death if we don’t take time. Some people see the industry as a haven for failures; right now we can’t get rid of piracy because artist take their hard earned job to the pirates and you say I should go on hunger strike, no way. I don’t want to get ulcer. We have to put basic things in motion first. We have instances when a telecom brand says they will take your songs and make them caller or ring back tone for download.
