What are the Internet and the World Wide Web?
The Internet is a network of many large computers around the world. You may use your computer to connect to it using a line provided by your Internet Service Provider (or ISP). Usually, when you have an account with an ISP, you may receive and send e-mail and view web pages in the World Wide Web using a software called “web browser” such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. The World Wide Web (or WWW) is a network of web pages, which is the visual part of the Internet. On a company’s web page, you may see images and information the company publishes. A web page may have lots of links that lead you to other web pages. Nowadays, in the WWW, you can find information on virtually all subjects: news, education, making friends, home buying, airline tickets, investment, bookstores, etc.. Except in countries which adopt a strict censorship policy, people anywhere in the world may have access to a web page.
