What are the international organizations involved in radiation protection?
The most veteran of these is the International Commission for Radiation Protection (ICRP), which was founded in 1928 under the name of international council for protection against X-rays and radium, which indicates that its original purpose referred to medical applications of radiation. Its original membership included only doctors and biologists, but as its mission was extended to include radiation protection of nuclear and radioactive facilities, it not only changed its name in 1950 but also expanded its membership to include physicists, chemists, engineers, etc.
