What are the ingredients of Coca-Cola?
Recipes #1 & #3 are closest to the the ingredients list published in the Pediatrics medical literature in the mid 1970’s. This was to help doctors determine which beverages were suitable for sick children. The ingredients breakdown also included a chemical analysis of the amount of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and other elements in Coca~Cola, Pepsi, and other soft drinks. The cola drinks do contain citrus oils (lemon, orange, & grapefruit) and lime juice, which adds both flavor and acidity to the drink. Recipe #2 would not taste at all like Coca Cola, but may be classified as a cola drink. Personally, I am not sure that the original formula separated out the cocaine from the coca leaves. At the time of Coca~Cola’s invention cocaine was a common ingredient of many patent medicines. No prescription was required.
