What are the indications for a bone marrow transplant or stem cell support?
Patients who have very aggressive disease and who are not responsive to conventional chemotherapy are often considered for bone marrow transplantation. These are generally patients who have greater than 10 positive nodes or patients with metastatic disease. A recent study has called into question the effectiveness of bone marrow transplant verses an aggressive regimen of chemotherapy which includes taxanes.
