What are the important terms that I need to know about Ethernet networks?
Collision: This is the result of two nodes transmitting at the same time. The frames from each node are damaged when they meet each other on the physical media. Collision domain: On an Ethernet network, when two or more nodes try and transmit at the same time the data frame is damaged, and the nodes must backoff from the network. The network area within which data packets originate and collide is called a collision domain. Backoff: The retransmission delay enforced when a collision occurs. Broadcasts: Data frames that are sent to all the nodes within a network segment. They are identified by a broadcast address. Network architecture: A combination of existing standards (rules or procedures that the network complies with) and protocols (set of rules and conventions that govern how networked nodes inter-communicate).
