What are the implications if I don’t submit the assessment?
All NHS organisations are mandated by the Department of Health under Review of Central Returns Steering Committee license ROCR/OR/0119/FT6/002: to carry out and submit an IG assessment using the toolkit by the 31 March each year. Failure to do so would in the first instance result in discussions between the Digital Information Policy team and the staff responsible for ensuring the assessment is submitted. This would be followed by contact with the relevant organisation’s Chief Executive. Non-NHS organisations that do not submit the assessment are at risk of having their access to NHS CFH service suspended or removed. General Practices that do not submit the IG assessment are likely to be reported to the Strategic Health Authority as a risk by their Primary Care Trust (PCT). Some PCTs have indicated that they would report the matter as a potential serious untoward incident within their annual reports.
