What are the IMO’s SOLAS Regulations V/19-1?

0

The SOLAS Regulations V/19-1 for Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT) is a mandatory requirement for high speed craft and cargo ships weighing over 300 gross tonnes. These regulations state that a minimum of one position report must be sent every six hours to a Flag Authority, identifying the vessel, its position and the time of the position. An estimated 50,000 vessels/ships worldwide will have to comply with this legislation, with a deadline for compliance of 31st December 2008. All ships constructed after this date will have LRIT capability built in. All existing vessels will need to purchase a solution to ensure they are compliant by the deadline.
