What are the historic and current ranges?
Fossil records show that the California condor ranged all over North America. In recent history, condors have ranged from British Columbia to Baja Mexico. They also ranged in the interior from the coast toward the Rocky Mountains. By 1980, only a small remnant population of these great birds was left in the San Joaquin Mountains. Today, condors survive in three highly managed populations: one in Baja California, Mexico; one in Arizona near the Grand Canyon; and the other in the Southern California coast range.
