What are the highest and lowest temperatures ever recorded on the nine planets of the solar system?
With the sun being the main source of energy for all planets in the solar system, it would seem obvious that Mercury, being the closest to the sun, would be the hottest planet. However, since Mercury does not have an atmosphere, Venus holds the record of hottest in the solar system, with an average temperature around 867°F. Pluto, the most distant from the sun, is the coldest planet with an average temperature of -369°F. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center maintains a page of planet facts on this resource page.
