What are the health factors under HIPAA?
• Health status; • Medical conditions, including physical and mental illnesses; • Claims experience; • Receipt of health care; • Medical history; • Genetic information; • Evidence of insurability (see below); and • Disability. Conditions arising from acts of domestic violence as well as participation in activities like motorcycling, snowmobiling, all-terrain vehicle riding, horseback riding, and skiing are considered evidence of insurability. Therefore, a plan cannot use them to deny you enrollment or charge you more for coverage.
