What are the health effects of ingesting lead in drinking water?
Lead can pose a significant risk to health if too much of it enters your body. Short-term health effects may include interference with red blood cell chemistry, delays in normal physical and mental development in babies and young children and deficits in the attention span and learning abilities of older children. Long-term health effects may include nervous system damage, kidney damage, mild increase in blood pressure and other effects if an individual is exposed to high levels of lead over the course of a lifetime.
