What are the Health effects of chlorofluorocarbons?
CFC’s were not banned because of their direct health effects. They were banned because of their environmental effects, including (1) their greenhouse effect, trapping heat and leading to global warming, and (2) their destruction of the Ozone Layer, which protects us from harmful Solar Ultraviolet Radiation. Once in the Earth’s stratosphere, CFC’s can block the formation of protective ozone for over 100 years.
