What are the hardware and software requirements to run the simulator?

We use the Linux package provided by the Debian organization and either Linux-2.4.x or Linux-2.6.x. A mid-level PC desktop with a P3 or P4, an ethernet card, and 512MB of memory is more than adequate. On our lab system the P3 delivers a frame rate of 55fps and the P4 runs with 110fps. Dual headed video cards for the AGP and PCI slots (at least three free PCI slots) are required to run the six monitors. In addition, the X-windows and OpenGL libraries are required. There are other open-source libraries provided with the basic display packages. Or they can be downloaded, such as FlightGear, from their respective web sites. We feel it will be possible with a little more engineering and ingenuity to build a COMPLETE 747 simulator with just two PCs.
