What are the guidling principles expected of all Palliser volunteers?
• All information learned directly or indirectly concerning a patient/resident, doctor or staff shall be respected as confidential. • No information about a patient / resident should be sought other than that which is required to perform your duties. Questions about a patient/ esident’s condition or treatment should NOT be answered by a volunteer -either in or out of a hospital. • Respect a patient/resident’s privacy. Excuse yourself if a doctor or nurse enters the room. • Visiting friends or relations should not be done while on duty/in uniform. • Know your job, responsibilities and limitations. Work quietly and unobtrusively but seek help when in doubt. • Avoid discussion of controversial subjects with patients/residents, visitors or co-workers. Hospital workers must respect all cultures. • Be patient and courteous to everyone.
