It is the intent of the Department of Education that all Kentucky students participate at last once in all components of the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System assessment as they pass through elementary, middle, and secondary levels in Kentucky schools. If the student is being “double promoted”, he/she would need to take the tests for both levels. If the student was retained and then moved on midyear, the student would only have to take the test for the new level.
