What are the guidelines of Lent?
Lent is a 40 day period, beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending with the Triduum on Holy Thursday evening. It allows Christians the opportunity to ponder the sacrifices Jesus made for us with his suffering and death. Many sacrifice a favourite food, favourite activity, or instead of giving something up, many make this period a time of doing positive things they don’t ordinarily do such as spending extra time in prayer, reading the Bible or visiting the elderly who are homebound. It is a time of reflection and prayer. Many Catholics attend Mass on Fridays during Lent to participate in the Stations of the Cross and Benediction.
