What are the guidelines for the placement of gates in the compound of a house or a multi-storied building?
According to the standard texts, the gates should be placed in exalted regions only. It depends on the main entrance of the building as well as the approaching roads. The east facing side should have the gate on the east of north-east. On the other hand, if it is a west facing side, the west of the north-west facing region should be utilised for the construction of the gates. A south facing side should have the gate on the south of south-east. No building should have gates on the south or west of south-west. Similarly, the north of the north-west and east of south-east should be avoided.
