What are the grading procedures for 3rd grade?
In third grade students begin to receive letter grades (A,B,C,D,E) for major subjects, which include reading, English, spelling and math. Students receive H, M, and L (high, medium and low) grades for minor subjects, which include science, social studies, penmanship, citizenship, gym, art, music and foreign language. Report card grades are based on an average of grades earned for tests, quizzes and projects. Homework is usually done for practice with parent assistance welcomed, so these papers will not be graded. However, good homework habits and extra efforts can positively influence a student’s grade. Other factors that may be taken into account include class participation, improvement and working up to one’s own ability. Lists of goals and grading criteria are given to the students for writing assignments and other graded projects.
