What are the grades of Badger Hair and the differences?
Badger hair is quality graded according to the appearance and softness of the hairs. There isn’t an industry standard that compels companies to specific definitions but the quality manufacturers generally adhere to ascending classifications of Pure, Best, Super and Silvertip. Badger hair is an expensive resource so the price of a brush will depend on the quality of the hair and the amount of it used in the brush. The grade of Pure Badger is entry level and is harvested from the majority of the pelt, including the belly. It is dark in appearance although the colors of individual hairs vary from grey and brown to black. Pure Badger will be the firmest to the touch of all the grades and is favored by some because it will gently exfoliate the skin prior to shaving.
