What are the goals of CML treatment?
The primary objective of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) treatment is to stop the disease from becoming worse. This may be achieved by ongoing monitoring of the disease to ensure the following goals are met:1 • Haematologic response − returning blood counts to normal ranges and reducing the signs and symptoms of CML • Cytogenetic response − eliminating or reducing the number of cells carrying the Philadelphia (Ph1) Chromosome • Molecular response − eliminating or reducing the level of BCR-ABL proteins in the body As you undergo therapy, it is important to talk to your doctor about what your treatment goals should be. Typically, your main goal should be to aim for the greatest level of response possible.
