Gmail S/MIME is a Firefox browser plug-in that adds provides a user interface to the S/MIME functionality built into Gmail’s web interface. S/MIME allows signing and encrypting of emails. The current versions of Microsoft’s Outlook Web Access do not provide the same level of functionality as in Gmail, so this plug-in will not work with Outlook Web Access. The plug-in adds a sign and lock icon to the Gmail interface, allowing messages to be signed or encrypted. Use your CAC signature certificate to sign messages. Encrypting messages is difficult since you probably don’t have the public encryption certificates for your recipients (in Outlook, these are obtained from Active Directory).
