In 2002 the patent protection held by Hoffman-LaRoche for Accutane expired and several other manufacturers entered the acne treatment market selling generic versions of Accutane. These include brands known as Amnesteem, Claravis and Sotret. Roche discontinued production and sales of Accutane on June 29, 2009 citing, among other things, poor market share.
