What are the general steps involved in bath tub refinishing?
First, the old caulking is removed from around the tub. Then the surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove any soap film or other contaminates. The surface is then chemically etched to improve adhesion of the bonding agent. The etch is then neutralized prior to rinsing to avoid any potential harm to plumbing or septic systems. The surface is then thoroughly rinsed and dried. Surface defects such as chips are repaired at this time. Next, the area surrounding the tub is protected with masking paper, and the other bathroom surfaces, floor, toilet, vanity etc. are also covered. We then install ventilation equipment into the bathroom. This reduces overspray within the bathroom and also provides positive ventilation which nearly eliminated odor migration into the rest of the home. The finishes are then applied using high volume, low pressure spray equipment. This consists of one bonding agent coat, followed by three coats of two-component urethane. This completes the basic refinishing process.
