What are the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School?
To be admitted as a graduate student, an applicant must have obtained a baccalaureate or higher degree, prior to the start of the NIU term for which the student is admitted, from an accredited U.S. college or university or recognized foreign institution. Applicants must have the approval of the Department of Teaching and Learning and also are required to have either (a) a minimum 2.75 overall grade point average (GPA), based on a 4.00 system, in their baccalaureate program or (b) completed 15 or more semester hours of graduate work at an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.20 or better.
