What Are The GED Tests?
The GED exam is a battery of five tests in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts Writing, and Language Arts Reading. The GED tests take seven or more hours to complete. The Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests) are designed to measure the skills and knowledge equivalent to a high school course of study. The five subject area tests which comprise the GED test battery are Mathematics; Language Arts, Reading; Language Arts, Writing (including essay); Science; and Social Studies.
The GED (General Educational Development) Tests consist of five tests in the areas of Language Arts/Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts/Reading, and Mathematics. The GED Tests measure the higher order thinking skills necessary for an individual to successfully complete post secondary education and/or find and maintain employment. To pass the GED tests and earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma, you must achieve a specific total score of 2250 with no score below a 410 in each of the five tests. If you pass, you will receive your diploma in about three weeks. If you need to try again, you can apply for retesting. Retesting is permitted only in the fourth month or beyond following the most recent attempt. The tests are usually offered each month on three consecutive evenings. Some testing centers offer the GED test on two consecutive Saturdays each month.

Few questions ask you to recall facts, details, or meanings of terms. The GED Tests are designed to measure knowledge and skills that are usually learned in high school classes, but which you have learned through observation, experiences, and informal discussion.
