What are the future prospects for bauxite mining in the area?
Even though the Efficiency Upgrade will reduce the life of the project based on current estimated bauxite reserves, the exploration process will continue. Alcoa is committed to an ongoing exploration policy and will work closely with the WA Government in the long term to maximise the extraction of the Darling Range bauxite resource so the economic life of its Pinjarra refinery is extended. This will maximise the long term economic benefits of the project for the local and state community.
