What are the fundemental differences between the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green Parties?
Well, when I was a boy, the Republican party was the party of business, special interests and the cupon-clipping plutocrats, while the Democratic party was the party of the average working man and his allies–labor, intellectuals, and the welfare state. At least that was how I was introduced to them about 45 years ago. The Republicans are still the party of business interests and the wealthy, but they used that money to buy their way into the Christian Right, which had been largely shut out of politics in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Over time, the Christian Right has found its own voice and has all but taken over the party. I say “all but” because the plutocrats (like Cheney) are still in charge even though they put up ole’ puddinhead Dubbuya up in the top spot.
