What are the functions of the registration authorities for the ISO 639-1 and 639-2 standards?
The registration authorities for the ISO 639 standards receive and review request applications for both new language codes and for changing existing ones according to criteria indicated in the standards. The registration authorities maintain accurate lists of information associated with registered language codes. They also process and distribute updates of the codes on a regular basis to subscribers and other parties.
