What are the functions of the nerve endings?
I am not really sure what the question means but I’ll resist the urge to say ‘stopping nerves going on forever’. Nerves are one of the body’s ways of communicating over a distance and they do this by carrying an electrical signal (a bit like a wire). Whenever a nerve is ‘fired’ the signal passes down the nerve and when it reaches the nerve ending a chemical is released to pass the message on. Signals might be for example, to send a message to your brain from your hand (message: that’s hot!). Nerves are also used to send messages (instructions) from your brain to your muscles (message: move your hand out of the fire!) That’s a brief summary of nerves and certainly doesn’t give a total picture but I hope that’s what you need to know.
