What are the functions of the ICSI?
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India is a premier national professional body, imparting education primarily through distance learning. It was established by an Act of Parliament (Company Secretaries Act, 1980) to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries in India. The ICSI, besides conducting Company Secretaryship examinations, enrols qualified students as members after practical training, exercises professional supervision over the members in matters pertaining to professional ethics and code of conduct, organises on a regular basis professional development and continuing educational programmes and brings out research publications, guidance notes and secretarial standards. I took personal interest in bringing out the monthly journals, Chartered Secretary, for corporate executives, Student Company Secretary and CS Foundation Course Bulletin for students. The ICSI also regularly interacts with government, regulatory bodies and chambers of commerce and industry
