What are the French, German, and Spanish Placement Tests like?
The tests start out on-line for about 20-30 minutes with multiple-choice questions on grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. If your score indicates that you belong in one of the first three semesters at Appalachian (1010, 1020 or 1040), your exam will end here and you’ll be told a “placement level” (1010, 1020, or 1040) immediately. You should write this down because you will enter it on the Preliminary Course Registration Form (Step 6 of the First Connections Calendar). If your score falls above the cut-off for 1040, you will be asked to give a brief writing sample (100-150 words) to help us place you. You’ll click on the link at the end of the computerized portion, complete your writing sample and submit it on-line. Your writing sample and the results of the computerized portion will be evaluated by a language professor, who will determine the correct language course for you.
