What are the freedoms that Academies have to vary the pay and conditions of teachers?
Academies are not bound by the Teachers Pay and Conditions of Service. They and their staff will be able to negotiate pay and conditions arrangements to meet the particular needs of the Academy and its pupils. Where Academies replace existing schools there will in many cases be a transfer of undertakings under the TUPE regulations. Academies are able to respond innovatively to the challenges they face and the ability to negotiate their own pay and conditions is part of the increased flexibility they need to do that.
