What are the fines for violation of the by-laws?
Amendments to the Vancouver Charter now permit fines for bylaw offences of up to $10,000. The court, based on the specific circumstances of the offence and the offender, imposes the actual amount of the fine on a particular offender. Council has permanently amended the Fire Bylaw to increase maximum fines to $10,000 to deter unsafe conduct during the Games (e.g., overcrowding). The new bylaw will also allow fines up to $10,000 within the specified timeframe of the Games.
