What are the fertility evaluation and treatment before IUI?
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is used for abnormal sperm survival, for abnormal sperm factors, and as part of ovarian hyperstimulation with clomiphene or other medication. Testing before IUI includes post coital evaluation (PCT), cervical cultures, cervical Chlamydia, sperm analysis and general fertility tests. Abnormal tests are treated and a trial of antibiotics, estrogen and/or Robitussin can be used. Antibiotics can treat bacterial problems and estrogen may correct hormonal abnormalities. Robitussin can thin the mucus. Men with anti-sperm antibodies have been treated with steroids in some centers. Return to top of page.
