What are the features of Robert Louis Stevensons writing?
Here is a rather helpful quote from an analysis of his works in relationship to his life events. I’ve included the link if you would like to explore a bit more. Stevenson had a very uncomplicated view of art; he would have rewritten Horace to assert that it was better to entertain than to instruct. Consequently his critical essays on literature contain few sustained analyses of style or content. They are more entertaining to read for the narrator’s tone than they are instructive about the fine points of writing.
