What are the fares for trips outside of the District of Columbia?
The meter will be engaged for the entire trip and the passenger will pay the metered rate of fare to his/her destination, which fares are set by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Commission (WMATC). Are drivers allowed to ask for fares in advance of my reaching my destination? No. However, the Commission is looking into allowing drivers to request fares in advance. These fares charged will be an estimated fare and must be reasonably related to the actual fare. The driver will be required to state this to the passenger.
