What are the factors responsible for the development of tourism in South Asia?
South Asia was colonized by most major power during the later part of the 19th century till mid 20th century. As a result, there existed and exists till date, immense curiosity about these lands, especially among people whose countries ruled there- for example, Britain, France, Netherlands, among others. After South Asian nations became independent of colonial rule and as air travel developed and became accessible to more and more population, tourists from erstwhile colonial powers traveled to these countries. The second major reason was cheaper currency exchange rates vis-a-vis major European and American currencies, which made tourism to South Asia more viable.
